Addiction Recovery through Naturopathy
What is Naturopathy?
Basically, naturopathy is an alternative and traditional system of medicine that believes in the body’s own ability to heal and the healing power of nature. It looks at the person as a whole to identify and treat the root cause of disease, rather than just treating your symptoms. Naturopathy uses a mixture of diet advice (using food as medicine), lifestyle (exercise, sleep etc.), herbs and nutritional supplements amongst many others to bring the body back to balance. It uses evidence-based science & therapies, and is incredibly powerful alongside other forms of treatment e.g. medical, psychology/counselling.
Addiction is a complex mental disease, but it can be overcome.
In today’s world, a majority of people have on some level; a craving, dependency, over-consumption or addiction issue.
Naturopathy views addiction as an imbalance of the brain and body. It recognises the factors that lead to addiction (such as genetics, social/environmental and psychological factors) and the changes that happen in the brain and body because of the addiction.
Naturopathy can be used at any stage of your journey, such as:
Before you quit: to support your body and replenish lost nutrients and minerals or minimise ‘come down’ symptoms naturally
Preparing you to quit: to ensure you experience minimal withdrawal symptoms that happen from the brain/body being out of balance
Acute withdrawal: in mild addiction only* to reduce anxiety, uncomfortable symptoms and encourage the body’s repair.
Recovery: to replenish and repair the brains chemistry, improve energy, and heal unwanted side effects from the addiction.
